Ivy Tech Community College is partnering with the Hoxworth Blood Center of University of Cincinnati to host a blood drive this winter at the Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg Riverfront campus, 50 Walnut Street.
The blood drive will be from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. February 9 in Room 514 (Nursing Lab) of the Riverfront campus. Community members, as well as Ivy Tech students, faculty and staff, are welcome to donate at the campus.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with parental consent, and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. They must present photo identification and should eat a good meal within four hours before giving and drink plenty of water or juice before and after donating.
The donation process takes less than one hour. It is recommended that donors have a light snack before donating.
Most people are eligible to donate. There are very few causes for deferral and very few medications that are not acceptable.
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati was founded in 1938 and proudly serves 30 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects over 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. At least 400 products are essential each day to keep up with the demands of tri-state hospitals and their patients.
