Crippled Japan Nuclear Plant Restarts Water Decontamination System

(Undated) — A water decontamination system at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant is back on for the first time in three months. The utility Tokyo Electric Power has had to shut off the system at the crippled power plant multiple times since last year because of various glitches. It purifies radiation-tainted water used to cool the plant’s reactors. Thousands of gallons of water became contaminated in 2011 when Japan’s huge earthquake and tsunami caused a nuclear meltdown at the plant. It was the worst nuclear disaster in a generation.
