First Black Female To Win Olympic Gold Dies

(Albany, GA) — The first black woman to win Olympic gold is dead. Alice Coachman Davis passed away today at age 90. The track star trained barefoot on dirt roads and won her first high-jump championship at age 16. Davis won a gold medal in the high jump at the 1948 Olympics. She also made history as the first black woman to win an endorsement deal.
