Iraq Insurgents Take Control Of County’s Largest Dam

(Undated) — Insurgents with the militant group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria now control the biggest hydroelectric dam on Iraq’s Tigris River. ISIS forces fought for 24 hours before defeating Kurdish troops defending the dam about 30 miles north of Mosul . Military analysts say ISIS now could unleash a flood that would wipe out much of Mosul and cause widespread damage in Baghdad, some 280 miles downriver.
