Johnson Blames Head Injury For Hiatus

Jamey Johnson is explaining his absence from country music.

He told “Kentucky Country Music,” he suffered a head injury about seven-years ago.

Johnson says, “I slipped on some ice coming out of the studio one night and I hit my head pretty hard. What I found out from a neuroscientist out in Scottsdale, Arizona, here recently is that ever since then, my brain has been locked in a hyper vigilant state, which it focuses on survival. Anything that isn’t directly relevant to survival, it just doesn’t focus on it all anymore.”

Johnson says he can still write songs, but the inspiration isn’t always there and it’s hard for him to focus on it the way he once did.

Johnson is keeping busy, though.Β  He says he’s working with John Carter Cash on an album of reinterpreted Johnny Cash songs.
