Macy’s Settles Racial Profiling Case

(New York, NY) — Macy’s has agreed to pay 650-thousand dollars as part of a deal reached with the New York State Attorney General’s Office. The store will also hire an independent monitor to address complaints shoppers were under heightened surveillance, while innocent shoppers were detained for shoplifting at the Herald Square store. The AG’s investigation found Macy’s detained minorities and accused them of shoplifting at significantly higher rates than whites.
