New York City’s Soda War Back In Court

(New York, NY) — New York City lawyers are trying to overturn a lower court ruling saying the Health Department went too far in limiting the size of sugary drinks in restaurants in 2012. Lawyers for big beverage and grocery are trying to block Mayor Bill de Blasio from imposing new regulations, arguing City Council has the right to overrule the Health Department. City lawyers claim the Health Department has the right to make the ruling, prompting a state Supreme Court judge to ask if it had the right to ban Big Macs and M&Ms too.
