NFL Referee Refused To Work Washington Games

(Undated) — Longtime NFL referee and current CBS analyst Mike Carey says he hasn’t worked a football game in Washington since 2006 because he feels the team’s name is offensive. Carey tells the “Washington Post” he would specifically request he not be assigned to games at FedEx Field. The 19-year officiating veteran says he has called the team “Washington” all his life, and will continue to do so. Carey was the first African American referee to work a Super Bowl.
