Retired Tom T. Hall Starting To Slow Down

(Undated) — Tom T. Hall admits it’s taken him a while to adjust to being retired. The 78-year-old Country Music Hall of Famer tells “Country Weekly” when he stepped out of the spotlight he turned his attention to animals in need, helping his wife Dixie with their Animal Land complex. But Tom says it didn’t take long for him to realize this wasn’t “retirement” — he was busy as ever with maintenance, cleaning and tending to the animals in their care. The singer explains that he eventually had to convince Dixie that she needed to “retire too.”

In their more traditional retirement, Tom and Dixie still watch over plenty of animals. He says they have chickens, peacocks, and wild turkeys as well as a number of feral cats that “will only associate” with him. Hall adds that he loves tending to his vegetable garden and spending time painting. And he hasn’t completely left music behind. Tom says he and Dixie still “write songs all the time.”
