Waiting List Revealed At Wichita VA

(Wichita, KS) — Officials have revealed an apparent secret waiting list for patients that was kept at the VA hospital in Wichita, Kansas. The “Wichita Eagle” reports that Robert J. Dole Veterans Affairs Medical Center Director Francisco Vazquez sent a fax to Kansas Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran on Friday that revealed that the hospital kept a secret waiting list. The revelations included that the list not only endangered patients, but that the Office of Inspector General determined that nine veterans waited more than 90 days for an appointment with a primary care physician.
The fax also revealed that the Wichita VA has “terminated” the secret list, corrected gaps in patient access, and that 96 patients in the Heartland Network of VA facilities faced waits of at least 90 days. Twelve patients waited at least 90 days for medical care in Kansas City and eight veterans endured lengthy waits for service in Topeka and Leavenworth.
