(Rising Sun, In.) – Seven World War II Veterans got together at the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59 on Monday, June 23.
P.G. Gentrup and Jerry Bondurant hosted the group who represent a local part of the Greatest Generation.
They enjoyed lunch together, which was supplied by Bill Parks and Post #59. They group then had a great time sharing their stories.
The seven are Bill Rowling, Bush White and Bill McClure from Rising Sun and their guests from the Bright area including Jake Reid, “Baby Doll” Bentle, Bud Swales and Lawrence Lyttle.
After two hours at the Legion the WWII vets went up the street to the old Carnegie Library where Gentrup has his military collection on display. It includes several military uniforms, pictures from the local veterans’ trips to Washington, D.C., flags, a POW-MIA train and so much more memorabilia.
The group continued their conversations at the museum and said that they should have another outing – and soon.
Rising Sun and Ohio County Librarian Cynthia Schmid-Perry came to visit with the WWII veterans and enjoyed their stories. She told them that she was an Army veteran, too.
