(Rising Sun, Ind.) – A very special birthday is upcoming for one Rising Sun woman.

Raised during the Great Depression, Edythe Hassett will be celebrating her 100th birthday on Sunday, March 27.

Edythe has been a resident at Hoosier Boy Square for the past 21 years. She first moved to Ohio County in 1958 with her husband Jimmy, where the two worked full-time on their farm.

The two married years earlier in 1941 after they met at Dunham Hospital in Cincinnati, where Edythe worked as a nurse. They raised two sons, Jim and Pat, and also have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The office staff at senior housing at Hoosier Boy Square in Rising Sun would like local residents to join in celebrating “Hats Off to Edythe Hassett Day” on March 27 in celebration of her 100th birthday.
