(Gallatin County, Ky.) – A woman accused of murdering her husband made her first appearance in a Gallatin County courtroom Tuesday.

Debra Hiles is accused of shooting and killing her husband, Robert “Bob” Hiles, on October 3 at the couple’s home on Jacobs Ridge Road in Verona. She had called 911 herself to report the shooting.

Hiles, 36, pleaded not guilty to the murder charge on Tuesday.

A judge ordered Hiles held on a $250,000 cash bond, despite her public defender asking for a lower bond.

Hiles will be back in court next week for a preliminary hearing as prosecutors work to take the murder case to a grand jury.

Child Protective Services are assisting the placement of two children who lived with the Hiles.
