Press release from The Community Foundation of Switzerland County

(Switzerland County, Ind.) – The Community Foundation of Switzerland County, Inc.’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that they recently approved eleven grant requests from the three grants programs they offered in 2017:  the Fall Fixed Grant Cycle, Immediate Response Grants program and Leadership Training Grants program.

Switzerland Baptist Church was awarded $490 to send their pastor to a Gottman Institute training to receive certification in marriage counseling.  With this training, local residents will be able to turn to someone local for assistance.

Switzerland County Elementary School was awarded $2,000 for their Robotics team to add equipment, expand the program and host a competition here in Switzerland County.

Switzerland County FFA received $1,680 to cover 14 registrations to the FFA National Conference.

Switzerland County High School received $1,295 to subscribe to GMetrix, which is the leading practice and preparation software for Microsoft certification testing.  The Foundation is pleased to continue supporting a program that we helped bring to our school system through a Lilly Endowment grant (CAPE) over 15 years ago.

Switzerland County Historical Society was awarded $7,500 for a required match for an Indiana Historical Society grant that they have been invited to apply for.  If awarded this state level grant, they will do a conversion of the garage on the museum property to a conservation room.

Switzerland County School Corporation received $5,587 to support the Lynx Wrestling Club’s purchase of safety wall padding for the practice room.  This room is used by 50 to 60 kids from all grade levels.

Switzerland County School Corporation received $10,723 to help cover the cost of materials for the socialization component in the new Pre-school program that the school was not able to cover with the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant.

Switzerland County School Corporation Library received $384 to purchase updated professional reading material for the shelves at the high school library.  These materials will provide the faculty with opportunities to add to their professional expertise in education.

Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $12,660 to purchase body armor/vests for each deputy sheriff.  This equipment is vital to the safety of our officers and has a life span of 5 years.  This grant will allow the sheriff’s department to build into their budget a small amount each year to build up money to replace these vests in the future.

Switzerland County YMCA was awarded up to $7,000 to repair their 19 year old roof.  This repair will allow the staff and board some time to work on their long-range plan for a new roof.

Youth Pacers Athletic Corporation was awarded $7,360 to help cover costs associated with Little League Football as they restructure and build these expenses into fees and fundraising.

These eleven grants are made possible by the income generated from the following endowed Community Funds:  Community Foundation Board & Alumni Community Fund, William & Kathy Day Community Fund, Duke Energy Community Fund, Switzerland County Quality of Life Fund, Vevay Deposit Bank Community Fund, and the Vevay-Switzerland County Foundation Community Fund.
