(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The death of an inmate at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center is now the reason for a criminal investigation.

Leland Houston II, 49, of Sunman, was found unresponsive in his jail cell on February 27. He was pronounced dead at Dearborn County Hospital shortly after arriving there from the jail.

Court filings made March 6 show prosecutors requested a subpoena for Houston’s medical records citing “possible criminal acts.”  The subpoena was granted by a judge.

The subpoena seeks from the hospital “the production of any and all medical records, including blood work” pertaining to the care and treatment of Leland Houston… …for the dates February 25, 2014 through February 27, 2014.”

The subpoena does not name any individuals as possible suspects.

The sheriff and prosecutor’s office have not commented on the investigation. A sheriff’s office press release sent soon after Houston’s death stated that no foul play was suspected, but noted the investigation was continuing.
