(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Charges have been upgraded against a Lawrenceburg man who allegedly killed his father in a drunk driving crash.
Earl E. True, 35, wrecked on Wilson Creek Road on November 17. He lost control and veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by Lani Phelps, of Aurora.
True’s passenger, Douglas True, was seriously injured in the wreck. He was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Douglas True died in hospice care on December 23.
Phelps and a child in her vehicle were hospitalized with minor injuries following the wreck.
On December 28, Dearborn County prosecutors upgraded the charges against Earl True to include Causing Death When Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated With a Suspended License (level 4 felony), Reckless Homicide (level 5 felony), Causing Death When Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (level 5 felony), and OWI (class A misdemeanor). A level 4 felony carries a sentence of two to 12 years.
Prosecutors may also try to convict True of being a habitual substance offender, which could add more time to his potential sentence.
