(Aurora, Ind.) – An attack on a woman with a Yankee Candle jar has landed a Sunman man in jail.
David W. Keith, 37, of Sunman, was charged Wednesday with Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Class C felony) and Battery Causing Bodily Injury (Class A misdemeanor). He was arrested on Thursday and remains behind bars at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center awaiting his initial hearing in court.
Aurora Police were called to a home on the 200 block of Center Street at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6. When officers arrived, they found the alleged female victim visibly upset and crying, according to a court affidavit detailing the investigation.
The victim told officers that Keith hit her in the head with a glass Yankee Candle jar and punched her multiple times. She stated she possibly lost consciousness.
Officers noted broken glass on the bedroom dresser and floor. Other damage was found to closet doors and the bathroom.
The woman’s two children, ages eight and six, were present in the home at the time of the alleged assault, however, they did not witness the attack as they were in a separate room.
The victim refused medical treatment at the scene saying she was “fine”. Officers noted various injuries to her head.
Police later spoke with Keith at his home. He said he had gone to the victim’s house that day, however, he denied that any physical fight occurred, officers wrote in the affidavit.
