(Sunman, Ind.) – An alleged intoxicated driver led a chase for several miles through Dearborn and Ripley counties on Monday.

A Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 74 westbound at around noon. Sheriff Mike Kreinhop says the slow-speed chase continued on the interstate to the State Road 101 exit near Sunman.

“This was a slow speed chase in which the suspect either intentionally ignored officers or was not aware of the officers due to her intoxicated state,” Kreinhop said.

The chase continued southbound on 101 until Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies used stop sticks to bring the pursuit to a close.

The driver, Darla L. Ryker, 42, of Milan, was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated Refusal (Class A misdemeanor) and Resisting Law Enforcement in a Motor Vehicle (Class D felony).

Ryker remained held in jail in Dearborn County as of Tuesday morning.
