Press release from City of Rising Sun

image(Rising Sun, Ind.) – The City of Rising Sun will host a beard growing contest as part of its Bicentennial Celebration from Monday, January 13 through Tuesday, April 1, 2014 (no foolin’).  Rising Sun/Ohio County residents will have a chance to win up to $500, one of four prizes totaling $1250.

Participants must register at Rising Sun City Hall from Monday, January 13 through Friday, January 17 between 9 am and 5 pm.  At that time, a “before” photo of each clean shaven participant will be taken.

The “growth period” will last nine weeks.  Participants will return to City Hall for an “after” photo and a beard measurement.  This will take place from Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21 between 9 am and 5 pm.

The “after” photos of the burly beards will be displayed on the City of Rising Sun’s Facebook page so the public can vote for the $500 “People’s Choice Best Beard Award.”  The voting will be open from Monday, March 24 through Sunday, March 30. To vote, individuals will click “like” on the photo of the beard they like best.

Additional $250 prizes, voted on by committee, will be awarded for the Longest Beard, Scruffiest Beard and Handsomest Beard.  No person may win more than one prize.  All winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 1.

So men, give the razors a rest and “fuzz up” for the contest.  Your furry face could earn you up to $500!

The year-long Rising Sun Bicentennial Celebration will begin with a bang this New Year’s Eve.  A fireworks show will be launched along the riverfront from just south of the new boat ramp near Front Street and Maiden Lane.   The show will begin at 6:30 pm allowing everyone to enjoy the fireworks then spend the remainder of New Year’s Eve with family and friends.
