(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Rising Sun is a quiet, little city on the surface, but don’t let that fool you.

Progress is being made on a number of major projects in the city. A longtime project to remake its Ohio Riverfront was recently completed, says Mayor Brent Bascom.

“That riverfront project started back in 1997. It was an erosion control project, and we also wanted to make it a recreation site for boaters and something that our residents could enjoy,” Bascom told Eagle Country 99.3 listeners on Thursday.

Bascom is only seven months into his first term as mayor of Indiana’s smallest city.

He also discussed upgrading Industrial Drive, getting the tree fountain on the riverfront working, establishing a walking trail between Rising Sun and Aurora, and Rising Star Casino’s plans for a river ferry boat to Rabbit Hash.

“I think we can expect the ferry, hopefully, by the end of the year. We’re excited about that because we think that’s something that’s not only going to benefit Rising Sun Casino, but it’s going to help our community, both for bringing people to our community as well as allowing us another avenue to get over to Florence,” Bascom said.

Casino executives have not announced a date for the ferry to begin operation.
