Aurora 6th, Manchester 5th Capture Hoops Titles

The Manchester Elementary 5th grade boys basketball team and cheerleaders celebrate a South Dearborn Tournament Championship.

(Aurora, Ind.) – 5th and 6th grade champions were crowned in the South Dearborn Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday.

 

The Aurora Elementary 6th grade red boys basketball team won the tournament by defeating St. Mary’s 32-26. 

 

Parent Mary Bailey said Aurora led by 10 at the end of the third. St. Mary’s never gave up and pulled within three in the final minutes of the game. 

 

Aurora had six players score in the game, led by Eli Sporleder’s 13 points. Ethan Getz added 8, Peyton Shepherd and Trey Thies each with 4, Baylin Heidorn with 2, and Corbin Slack with 1.

 

Kristofer Hetzer led St. Mary’s with 21 points, followed by Noah Probst with 3 and Mason Mastropaolo with 2.

 

In the 5th grade championship game, Manchester Elementary capped off a 12-0 season with a thrilling 20-19 win over Dillsboro.

 

This was an exceptional season for these young boys as this was a first undefeated season in school history, said parent Tammy Wohlfrom.

 

The team congratulated Coach Shannon Black on the championship in her last season of coaching.
