(Aurora, Ind.) – With help from some hungry customers, the Aurora Fire Department made a huge gesture of support to the family of twin two-year-old girls who drowned in Aurora last week.

Jocelyn and Shaylyn Spurlock were laid to rest this past Saturday following services in Dillsboro. The sisters died April 8 after sneaking out of their home on Dutch Hollow Road and wandering into a swimming pool nearby.

On Friday, the Aurora Fire Department held their annual fish dinner. The department announced that it would donate $1,000 of the dinner proceeds to the Spurlock family.

The department made good on that promise, and then some. As word spread of the fundraiser Friday, the crowd coming to the fish fry grew. Customers made another $2,500 in donations to the fire department for the Spurlocks.

“We would like to thank the community for attending and for their support of the Spurlock family,” said Shana Lane with the Aurora Fire Department.

The funds raised were donated to the Spurlocks through Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Lane said
