Baby Dies In Carroll Co. Drunk Driving Crash

(Carroll County, Ky.) – A drunk, underage, unlicensed driver is being charged for a crash that seriously injured two adult passengers and killed an infant.


Kentucky State Police responded to a fatal collision at 9:13 Saturday morning in Carroll County. A vehicle driven by a 17-year-old girl, was traveling on 11th Street near the rear entrance to General Butler State Park.


The vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree.


The driver of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.


Two passengers – Jaquolin Valoria Villalva Rocha, 18, of Warsaw and Leonardo Lopez Sanchez, 22, of Louisville – were flown by Air Methods, Inc. to the University of Louisville Hospital for life-threatening injuries. 


Rocha’s infant who was taken to Carroll County Memorial Hospital where the child was pronounced dead.


Troopers say neither passenger was wearing a seat belt and the infant was not in a child restraint.


The investigation showed that alcohol was a factor in the crash.


The unnamed juvenile driver was charged with Manslaughter, DUI 1st, Failure to Use Child Restraint, No Operator’s License, Failure to Maintain Insurance, Failure to Wear Seat belt, and two counts of Wanton Endangerment. The driver is being held at the Campbell County Juvenile Detention Center.


Kentucky State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
