(Batesville, Ind.) – One local student has been named a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Batesville High School announced Monday that Kent J. Wilson is one of approximately 15,000 finalists for a 2016 National Merit Scholarship.

Kent is the son of Jeffrey and Anne Wilson, and is the 20th Batesville High School student to reach the National Merit Finalist status. If named a National Merit winner, Kent will be only the third student to receive the award in Batesville High School history.

This spring, the National Merit Scholarship Program will name nearly 7,400 scholarship winners, totaling more than $32 million.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2016 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.
