Batesville Runs To Fourth Straight Track & Field Sectional Championship

(St. Leon, Ind.) – Make it four in a row for the Batesville High School boys track and field team.

The Bulldogs claimed the team title once again at the IHSAA Boys Track & Field Sectional. The meet was held Thursday at East Central High School.

Batesville gained 112 points to top the team standings. Host EC was second with 100.5 points. Franklin County was third with 96. Then there was everybody else much further behind.

The Bulldogs took five of the 16 events. Garrett Wagner won the 110 meter hurdles with a stadium record-tying 15.02 and he took the title in the 300 meter hurdles in a new sectional record time of 38.94. Senior distance runner Caleb Moster won the 800 meter run in 2:02.

The 4×800 meter relay team of Joseph Choi, Quinten Gowdy, Adam Moster and Caleb Moster won the race in 8:20. The 4×400 relay team which included Moster, Wagner, Gowdy and Henry Lipinski won in 3:33.

Mark Bertke won the pole vault for East Central, crossing the bar set at 14’ 6” – a new sectional record. East Central’s relay team won the 4×100 in 44.66. The members were Mark Bertke, Willy Pantoja, Seth Ward and Devin Lintz. Freshman Trojans Malachi Studer won the boys high jump with a height of 5’ 10”.

Franklin County speedster Mitchell Orschell became a sectional champion in three events: 100 meter dash at 11.06, 200 meter dash at 22.93, and the long jump at 20’ 7 ¾”. Also winning an even for the third-place Wildcats was Colin Klusman in the 400 meter dash at 53.14 seconds.

Oldenburg Academy was in fourth place. Cross country state champion Curt Eckstein won the 3200 meter run with a venue record of 9:22.99. Eckstein also ran to the win in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:33.87.

Lawrenceburg did well in the field section of the meet. Junior state wrestling champ Mason Parris handily won the shot put with a distance of 52’ 4 ½” with teammate Noah Boyd coming in second at 47’ 3 ½”. Eyan Peelman had a discus throw of 150’ 4” to win the sectional event crown.

The top three place finishers in each event at the sectional automatically advance to the IHSAA Boys Track & Field Regional to be held at Warren Central High School on Thursday, May 25.
