Boy, 6, Dies In ATV Accident
(Florence, Ind.) – A six-year-old boy was killed in an ATV accident in Switzerland County on Tuesday.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on McCrearys Ridge Road in Florence, Indiana. Indiana Conservation Officers say the boy, Alex Scudder, was riding an ATV across the road when he was struck by a southbound pickup truck driven by Miles Hunt, 42.
The coroner pronounced Scudder dead at the scene.
Conservation officers have not said whether Hunt could face charges.
The investigation by conservation officers, Indiana State Police, and Switzerland County law enforcement is ongoing.
My daughter was in his class and it is heartbreaking for any parent to bury their child. Yes he should have never been on an ATV with no supervision but there are lots of children that ride ATV's and dirt bikes. Anything can happen no matter what you are doing. He could've been riding a bike or even a scooter and have the same outcome. My heart and prayers go out to this family for their loss. So sad!
Please don't judge this family, they are going through enough just losing their youngest child. The "what ifs" and "what fors" do not matter now. Right now they need love n support to get through this difficult time and the future.
This is exactly why I won't let my kids ride these vehicles. I have seen too many people die on them. It is not worth it.
My condolences to the family. That being said, what the hell are you thinking letting your 6 year old ride an ATV? Good parenting means keeping your children from harm. Harsh words, yes. But how many children in our area have been killed riding these? Even one is to many.
He could of gotten hit just walking across the street just as easy ad riding an atv. The man probably wasnt paying attention. Are we going to put a ban on them too now. Bad things happen. Its sad it was a little kid.
The fact is you are supposed to share the road especially on county roads where it is legal for quads to cross and for the adults on quads they can actually ride on county roads legally with proper licensing but a kid crossing the reading should've still been in consideration that you have to share the road with pedestrians I'm not saying the driver is a terrible person it was an accident they happen but the fact that a kid crossing the road is not from bad parenting it's from simply an accidental cause it could've happened walking or riding a bicycle too accidents happen I feel so bad for what the family is going through right now I know that the last thing they need to hear is this crap on the net
