UPDATE: Driver, 16, Injured In SR 1 Crash

Update posted at Wednesday, June 18 at 6:25 a.m.:

A teen was flown to the hospital by aircare following a crash on State Road 1 in Dearborn County Tuesday afternoon.

Indiana State Police said the 16-year-old male driver from Batesville was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla southbound on S.R. 1 near York Ridge Road when his vehicle went left of center for unknown reasons. The car hit an oncoming 2006 Peterbilt semi hauling a flatbed trailer.

The teen driver suffered facial injuries and possible broken bones, state police said.

The truck driver, Anthony Maggard, 41, of Greenup, Kentucky, only had complaints of shoulder pain. He refused treatment at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by ISP Motor Carrier Inspectors, Indiana State Excise Police, Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Lawrenceburg EMS, and Greendale, and Miller-York Fire Departments.


Update posted Tuesday, June 17 at 6:05 p.m.:

Indiana State Police advise that State Road 1 reopened at the accident scene just before 6:00 p.m.

No further details on the crash have been released. Indiana State Police are handling the crash investigation.


Original story posted Tuesday, June 17 at 3:50 p.m.:

(Dearborn County, Ind.) – A crash involving a semi and at least one other vehicle has shut down State Road 1 in Dearborn County.

A semi and a passenger vehicle collided on the highway between Main Street and Mount Pleasant Road in Guilford at about 3:30 p.m.

Dispatchers said that a person riding in the smaller vehicle suffered serious injuries. Aircare was being called to land at nearby Perfect North Slopes to take that victim to the hospital.

It was unclear if the truck driver was injured.

Dispatchers expect the highway to remain closed for at least a couple hours. The semi will need to be towed from the scene.
