(Batesville, Ind.) – State Road 46 is being closed west of Batesville for a while.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says a recent bridge inspection determined that the State Road 46 bridge over Little Laughery Creek needs additional supports to keep it functioning properly.

The bridge has been closed until the necessary repairs can be made.

“In addition to this repair work, INDOT is developing a project to rehabilitate or bypass the historic bridge as part of the agency’s transportation improvement plan,” said Scott Manning with INDOT.

INDOT says S.R. 46 could reopen west of Batesville later this summer. Detour signs are posted directing motorists to Interstate 74 via S.R. 229 and Decatur County Road 850 (New Point interchange).

Updated information and a map of the closure are available on the Indiana Department of Transportation TrafficWise service at indot.carsprogram.org. Roadway information is also available by calling 1-800-261-ROAD (7623) or 511 from a mobile phone.
