(Brookville, Ind.) – A Brookville woman is accused of neglecting a child.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on St. Peter’s Road around 9:00 p.m. on Monday.

Responding deputies say a female juvenile was found with injuries consistent with the crime of Battery.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Melisa L. Stone, 43, allegedly left the young girl and five other children aged 10 to 14 alone without supervision for approximately six hours.

During that time, the children allegedly got into a serious physical altercation resulting in bodily injury to a female juvenile.

The injured child was transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries to her head, arms and legs.

Stone was taken into custody and transported to the Franklin County Security Center. If convicted of Neglect of a Dependent, she could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
