(Burlington, Ky.) – A local YMCA is celebrating the completion of an expansion.

The R.C. Durr YMCA in Burlington was the scene of a ribbon cutting last week. Officials marked the completion of the first of two phases of the expansion.

The $2.7 million expansion is funded by a $1 million gift from St. Elizabeth Healthcare, with other organizations and individuals providing the rest.

The first phase of the expansion includes a new fitness center, group exercise and youth development rooms, and a St. Elizabeth Healthcare physical therapy center. In all, about 10,000 square feet of space has been added.

Phase II of the expansion could include a new basketball gymnasium with an elevated walking track and new early learning and child care rooms.
