(Aurora, Ind.) – A Dearborn County Commissioner is announcing that he will run for re-election this year.

 

District 3 Commissioner Shane McHenry issued a press release Thursday stating he’s running for a second term. The Aurora resident and Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department detective will appear on the Republican ballot in the May 6 primary election.

 

While currently uncontested, there is still the possibility that McHenry could face a challenger in the primary. Candidates have until Friday, February 7 to file.

 

Below is McHenry’s re-election announcement:

 

On January 9th, 2014, Dearborn County Commissioner Shane McHenry announced his intentions to run for re-election to the District 3 seat.  McHenry, a Republican, was first elected in 2011 and is seeking a second term.  McHenry is currently serving as President of the Dearborn County Board of Commissioners and serves on several boards including the Juvenile Advisory Board, Emergency Management Advisory Board, President of the Dearborn County Solid Waste Board, and the Port Authority Board.  Commissioner McHenry stated, “I consider it an honor to serve the people of Dearborn County and will continue to work hard to bring common sense back to government.  McHenry also stated, “We have made it a priority to bring accountability back to county government.  I have worked hard along with my fellow commissioners to ensure that all of our boards and departments are set up properly and are working efficiently especially when it comes to finances.”  McHenry also points to economic development as a key issue.  “I am very proud of the work that our board has done with regards to economic development.  We have formed partnerships with other municipalities and economic development commissions that will continue to capitalize on economic growth opportunities for Dearborn County now and in the future.

 

McHenry, a lifelong Dearborn County resident, graduated from South Dearborn High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Indiana University.  McHenry lives in Dearborn County with his wife, Jessica and their three children.
