(Franklin County, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation has a construction company in line to prevent Whitewater River erosion in Franklin County.

Milestone Contractors has been awarded a $332,000 contract to begin work to prevent soil erosion from encroaching near State Road 121 between Laurel and U.S. Highway 52.

Initial work will begin before the end of March to install a temporary sandbag coffer dam and protective curtain around the work site. Once installed, all other work will be performed from the top of the riverbank.

Some flagging of traffic will be necessary on State Road 121 during daylight hours. Motorists are advised to be alert for workers in the area and large trucks entering and exiting the construction site.

All work on the project is expected to be complete before the end of July.
