Contractor Preparing To Replace Cold Springs Road Bridge
Press release from Indiana Department of Transportation
(Dearborn County, Ind.) – Indiana Department of Transportation officials met with Dearborn County representatives and contractor personnel Thursday afternoon, January 18 at Seymour District offices to review plans for replacing the Cold Springs Road bridge over Whitaker Creek in Sparta Township.
McAlister Excavating holds the construction contractor for this $1,035,885 Local Public Agency (LPA) project sponsored by Dearborn County. The Patriot-Indiana contractor is charged with removing the existing Cold Springs Road bridge—located 3.1 miles north of U.S. Highway 50—and replacing it with a 3-span concrete I-beam structure measuring 150 feet in length with 28 feet of clear roadway side-to-side.
McAlister crews plan to be onsite for clearing in February. Actual bridge removal and construction operations are expected to begin in April. A signed detour will be posted at that time.
Cold Springs Road has a traffic count of 106 vehicles per day.
As LPA sponsor, Dearborn County will contribute 20 percent of project costs; the Federal Highway Administration will fund 80 percent. INDOT administers FHWA funding and has responsibility for overseeing the project to assure compliance with federal standards.
