(Verona, Ky.) – Fire investigators say a blaze that claimed the life of a toddler in Gallatin County was accidental.

Twenty-three-month-old Mason Davis died in the fire at the trailer he lived in on Roberts Road in Verona.

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department says the fire started with an electrical shortage in or near the trailer’s furnace coils.

His mother and a three-year-old were able to escape the home, but neither she nor first responders could reach the child in time.
