(Brookville, Ind.) – Great news for commuters in Franklin County. The Indiana Department of Transportation has reopened U.S. 52 near Brookville.

The highway at Orschell’s curve just east of town has been closed since April 2 because of a major slip in the roadway.

INDOT Southeast announced Friday morning that the highway is open to all traffic once again. The highway actually reopened at about 8:00 p.m. Thursday, says INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity.

Crews have been busy Friday removing detour signs.

Local commuters and even some heavy trucks had to resort to travelling on smaller county roads to get around the closure. A number of school bus routes had to be changed because of the highway being made off-limits.
