(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Lawrenceburg Police have arrested and charged a man for allegedly stealing and wrecking a vehicle.
Officers responded to a hit-and-run accident on U.S. 50 at Front Street last February 2. The driver at fault had fled on foot.
Later that day, the owner of the vehicle reported that it had been stolen.
Investigators collected DNA from the vehicle’s airbag, which had deployed during the crash. Those results were recently returned, leading to the identification of Bruce D. Williams, of Lawrenceburg, as the suspect.
Williams was arrested April 16 and remains held as of May 8.
He faces charges of Auto Theft (Class D felony), Receiving Stolen Property (Class D felony), and Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Class A misdemeanor). He also faces infractions for Driving While Suspended and Operating a Vehicle Without Proof of Financial Responsibility.
