(Indianapolis, Ind.) – So far in the 2017-2018 flu season, 25 people in Indiana have died of flu-related illness.

The number rose to 25 during the final full week of 2017, up from just nine deaths the previous week, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

The health department said 16 of the state’s flu-related deaths occurred among people age 65 or older. Seven other deaths in the 50-64 age group.

Last month, the Centers for Disease Control said flu activity is widespread across Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Indiana experienced 103 influenza-associated deaths in 2016-2017.
