Driver Allegedly Admits To Drinking Shots Before Crash
(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A Lawrenceburg man told police he had drank about nine shots of alcohol before he wrecked his car on State Road 48.
Lawrenceburg Police responded to a vehicle wreck on SR 48 at Highview Drive at about 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, according to a court affidavit. To witnesses at the crash scene told officers that a male driver had wrecked into a rock wall. They allegedly saw the driver climb out of the vehicle that had come to a rest on its side and run into the woods.
The suspect, Devon Wade Abdon, 24, was caught a short time later on nearby Ridge Drive.
Abdon allegedly told officers that he was driving on State Road 48 when he tried to pass another car in a no passing zone, ran off the roadway, turned the car on its side, and hit the wall. According to police, he told officers he ran from the scene because he had about nine shots before he crashed.
Abdon has been charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
He has posted a $500 cash bond to get out of jail. A guilty plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 26 in Dearborn Superior Court I.
Hopefully this is a lesson for him. He was honest at least and didn't try to weasel his way out of it. But make him watch hours of videos and aftermaths of drinking and driving. educate. Locking someone up alone is just not enough. Beat these crimes in peoples heads with actual data. Same for drug users. Show hours and hours of stuff to maybe open someone's eyes. Even if it only helps one. Maybe instead of jails having prime time television have DVDs based solely on educating
guess honesty gets you no where in this town. mistakes happen and I know him personally and he does not deserve to be locked up
Lock him up. He put everybody out on the road in danger by making a horrible decision. Not only drinking and driving but trying to pass going around that curve. Then the idiot leaves the scene of the crime. Need to at least take away his keys for a very long time but really should be in jail.
@BreaParrott what if he would have hurt or worse killed somebody? Would you still being saying oh it was just a mistake? Not only did he put people in danger by drinking and driving but actually tried to pass somebody driving on the hill on a part of the road that is obviously a no passing zone. That is more than just some simple mistake. Then he wasn't even MAN enough to stick around for the cops. Has he been MAN enough to apologize to the little old lady that lives there for tearing down her wall? Yes he should be locked up. He should pay to rebuild that wall. He should lose his license.
Just because you're honest about something doesn't mean you shouldn't have to pay for the decisions you make. He put everyone on the road in dangers because of his decisions therefore, he should pay for the consequences.
Everyone in entitled to their own opinions. Don't judge a person because they sin differently than you. I'm sure almost everyone has driven after drinking. Even just one drink. No one got hurt, and of course the damages are going to be paid for and if you knew him, I'm sure you'd know that apologizing to that lady is on his mind. Just because he drove while intoxicated does NOT make him any less of a man.
@Fjarrell No he is an idiot for drinking and driving. He is an even bigger idiot for trying to pass on that part of the hill. He is less of a man for running away like a little bitch instead of sticking around to make sure everything was ok. If he could have drove away I'm sure he would have tried that.
