Driver Arrested Following Cole Lane Fatal Crash

(Aurora, Ind.) – Alcohol may have been a factor in a deadly crash on Cole Lane in southern Dearborn County Sunday morning.

The accident involving two vehicles happened on the 9900 block of Cole Lane just before 5:00 a.m. Sunday, according to a Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department news release.

One of the drivers, 20-year-old James Whitaker, who lived on Cole Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner.

The other driver is identified as Steven Ray Hollin, 27, of Greensburg. Deputies said he was arrested. Jail records show Hollin was booked in at around 6:48 a.m. Sunday for Operating with a BAC of .08-.14.

The wreck remains under investigation by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department.

Aurora Police Department assisted at the scene.



My Friend lives right at the Accident Scene. He heard aloud Boom at 4:40 am. He thought it was a Shotgun. At 4:45 he heard another Boom. From what he says, the young man first wrecked, then was hit 5 minutes later by the young man in the Picture. He wishes he had went to investigate, maybe he could have somehow stopped the wrecked Car from being hit, not knowing if the young man had passed away or not from the first accident is bothering him..  R.I.P. Young man.
