The Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department has identified the person killed in Friday’s crash on State Road 156 near Vevay as Robert Lee Campbell, 49, of Moores Hill.

Sheriff Roy A. Leap says Campbell was travelling on State Road 156 approximately 700 feet east of Hunts Creek Road when his motorcycle dropped off the righthand side of the road. The driver tried to bring the bike back onto the roadway and over-corrected. The vehicle slid sideways across the roadway before leaving the opposite side of the roadway and striking an embankment. The vehicle then overturned before striking a tree. The vehicle came to rest against a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Campbell died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said investigators at the scene indicated that speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. The crash remains under investigation at this time.

Agencies assisting the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office at the scene included Switzerland County EMS, Jeff-Craig Fire Department, Vevay Police Department and Switzerland Co. Coroner.
