Driver Found Unresponsive After Pickup Crashes Into Building

(Ripely County, Ind.) – Ripley County Sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine how a pickup truck quickly accelerated in reverse and crashed into a building in Napoleon Monday evening, March 31.

Deputies and Osgood Police were called to a parking lot on Monroe Street in Napoleon at around 6:30 p.m., according to interim Sheriff Rob Bradley.

Officers found that Odell Bruce Richardson, 66, of Osgood had gotten into his red 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck when for unknown reasons, the pickup truck accelerated backwards across a parking lot at a high rate of speed. The truck then collided with a building.

Richardson was found in an unresponsive state and transported to Margaret Mary Health in Batesville by Rescue 69. He was subsequently airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of his condition.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office.
