(Burlington, Ky.) – Six months in jail is the sentence for a northern Kentucky man who caused a fatal crash in Boone County last year.

Vance Coyle, 33, was sentenced by the judge in Boone Circuit Court on Wednesday. The Independence, Ky. resident had pleaded guilty last month to a charge of reckless homicide.

Coyle fell asleep at the wheel as he drove home from work last August 28. His SUV went through a red light and struck a car driven by Timothy Lane.

Lane, 32, a Proctor & Gamble executive died of his injuries.

Coyle’s attorneys argued for a lighter sentence because the crash was an accident and he has to provide for his children.

The judge agreed to allow Coyle to take part in a work release program as he serves his jail sentence. He must also serve five years on probation.
