(Versailles, Ind.) – The drunk driver who hit and killed a Whitewater Township Trustee has been sentenced.

Richard Campos, 41, of Milan, was in a Ripley County courtroom on Thursday to plead guilty to OWI Causing Death with a Prior OWI (Level 4 felony).

Prosecutors say Campos was traveling at a rate of 81 MPH and had a BAC of .289 following the December 26, 2016 crash on State Road 350 that claimed the life of Hubert Brown.

Campos was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in the Department of Corrections.

Although Campos didn’t receive a max sentence of 32 years, Ripley County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Shane Tucker said Campos’ significant criminal history, including two prior OWI’s warranted a maximum sentence.

“While no sentence will ever bring Mr. Brown back to his family, I believe justice was served in this case,” said Tucker. “The Defendant’s senseless and selfish decisions led to the death of a husband, father, and friend and that should warrant an aggravated sentence.”

Tucker added thanks to Indiana State Police for their thorough and complete investigation.
