Drunk Driver Receives 20 Years For Deadly Crash

(Brookville, Ind.) – A drunk driver has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for causing a deadly crash in Franklin County in 2011.

Larry A. Gentry, 46, of Mount Vernon, Ky., pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a term of 20 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in the death of Calvin Offill, 58, of West Harrison. The sentencing took place March 5 in Franklin Circuit Court.

On September 27, 2011 Gentry was driving on Carolina Trace Road in Franklin County when he lost control of the vehicle. Front seat passenger, Offill, died of his injuries after arriving at an area hospital.

Gentry’s BAC was .14 following the crash, well over Indiana’s legal driving limit of .08

After completing his 15 year prison sentence, Gentry will serve five years on probation with a suspended license. Gentry must also pay a $250 fine and court costs. ​
