(St. Leon, Ind.) – On September 18, East Central and Lawrenceburg faced off at EC in an important EIAC match-up, but the game was bigger than a conference rivalry. The night was dedicated to raising money for the fight against cancer. This year, we changed the name to “Pass the Hope” to take the focus off of breast cancer only and bring awareness to all cancers. Traditionally, we donated money to someone battling breast cancer in our community, but we felt that limiting ourselves to only breast cancer wasn’t serving our community in the best way we could.
This year, EC and Lawrenceburg came together to raise $1,260.45 to donate to someone in our community battling some form of cancer. The committee decided to donate it to one of our, Janie McFarland. She is a 7th & 8th grade science teacher at SDMS. She has two children, Emma and Hannah. She has been fighting ovarian cancer for 4 years. She is currently on her 6th chemo treatment and is seeking additional opinions at Chicago’s Cancer Center of America, IU Cancer Research Center, and OSU Cancer Research Center.
We are happy to be able to present her a check to help battle this terrible disease and continue to keep her in all our thoughts and prayers. Thank-you to the Lawrenceburg team, parents, and fans for helping make our Pass the Hope night such a big success!
