(Richmond, Ind.) – The Indiana Farm Bureau ELECT political action committee is endorsing Richmond resident R. Bruce Wissel in the crowded race for State Senate District 27.

Wissel is among four candidates seeking the Republican party nomination in the May 6th primary. The others are Eric Atkinson, Jeff Raatz, and Doug Williamson. Dearborn County’s Jake Hoog is uncontested in the Democrat primary, and will face the Republican winner in November.

“Candidate Wissel understands the importance of agriculture to Indiana,” said Megan Ritter, Indiana Farm Bureau’s director of public policy. “The primary endorsement of R. Bruce Wissel by IFB ELECT is recognition of his support of policy priorities for agriculture, farm families and rural Indiana.”

According to the farm bureau, the IFB ELECT PAC’s endorsement is more complicated than most because candidates have made it through the multi-step process to gain the organization’s support.

Raatz, also of Richmond, has scored a handful of endorsements himself. They include Hoosiers for Quality Education PAC, Indiana Family Institute, and Indiana Manufacturers Association.

Senate District 27 includes all or portions of Dearborn, Fayette, Franklin, Randolph, Union, and Wayne counties. Current Senator Allen Paul (R-Richmond) announced earlier this year he will not seek re-election.
