Fatal Crash Discovered 10 1/2 Hours Later

Posted On July 07, 2014

(Ripley County, Ind.) – A person taking a morning jog discovered a wrecked vehicle on State Road 46 in Ripley County Monday.

The jogger was travelling along SR 46 west of Spades Road at around 9:30 a.m. when the individual noticed a vehicle that had apparently crash into a deep ditch on the north side of the highway, according to Indiana State Police. Inside the vehicle was the deceased driver.

The driver has been identified as Kristen J. Duncan, 48, of Batesville.

Troopers investigating believe Duncan’s vehicle had left the roadway for undetermined reasons at around 11:00 p.m. Sunday. It then smashed head-on into a culvert.

Duncan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, troopers said. The investigation is ongoing.

A nearby resident told investigators they heard a noise at around that time but at the time thought it was just fireworks.

Indiana State Police were assisted at the crash scene by Indiana Conservation Officers, Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Sunman Fire and Rescue, Ripley County Medic, and the Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
