(Vevay, Ind.) – The former Vevay School building may be saved, if the Town of Vevay agrees to take ownership.

Earlier this year, the Switzerland County Community Schools board voted to have the old, vacant building torn down. Used only for storage, it has remained empty since the school district administration moved out in 2009.

The Vevay Reveille-Enterprise newspaper reports that the school board voted this week to offer the building to the Town of Vevay.

The town board will have 90 days to respond with a decision on whether it wants to accept the old, two-story school as a gift. If it does not, the building could then be demolished.

The Vevay Town Board’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 25.
