(Versailles, Ind.) – A father of a boy who was murdered by his live-in girlfriend has pleaded guilty to Neglect of a Dependent.

Thomas Chadwell was in Ripley County court Wednesday morning for a sentencing hearing. He faces six months up to 2 ½ years for the level 6 felony when Judge Jeffrey Sharp pronounces his sentence on July 20.

Prosecutors say Chadwell had failed to seek medical treatment or provide food for his 12-year-old daughter and three-year-old son Bradyn Chadwell in 2015.

Bradyn Chadwell was abused and eventually murdered by Jennifer Schooler. She admitted to investigators that she shoved the child and his head struck on a table in their Batesville apartment shortly before his death. However, evidence was found on the body that the boy had suffered extended abuse.

Schooler was convicted by a Ripley County jury in January. She was sentenced to the maximum 67 ½ years in prison in May.
