fireworks-night-sky-small.jpg(Undated) – With Independence Day fast approaching, the Indiana State Fire Marshal is issuing some advice for folks who plan to purchase fireworks.

The fire marshal and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security say that fireworks vendors must be licensed by DHS’ Fire and Building Safety Division.

Consumers should only purchase from those licensed vendors who are reputable sources.

Permits must be displayed on the wall of a fireworks store. If a store cannot produce one upon request, citizens should call the State Fire Marshal’s office at (317) 232-2222.

The fire marshal also reminds that only consumers at least 18-years-old can legally purchase fireworks. Without a special permit, it is only legal to buy 1.4G consumer fireworks such as bottle rockets and fire crackers.
